Title: Field officer – Expert in inclusion and disability in agriculture (national position)

Location: Kenya, Meru County (rural area).

Purpose of the role: The field officer is responsible for coordinating, monitoring and reporting on project activities, such as training on the correct use of tools, cultivation and improving subsistence farming. They act as the link between local activities and MLFM's headquarters in Italy, trainers and beneficiaries on site.

Project summary:

The AGROS Project - Green Agriculture: Resources, Opportunities, Sustainability AID 013244/12/8 is a three-year programme of activities related to the promotion of sustainable agriculture and food security in the Meru County, implemented by Col'or in partnership with MLFM with the financial support of AICS (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation).

The overall objective is to contribute to the promotion of sustainable agriculture and food security in the areas of intervention (OSS 2.4). This will improve the agricultural productivity of beneficiaries through agroecology and digital go-to-market practices (OSS 2.3).

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Field Officer will have the following specific tasks:

  • The Field Officer will be responsible for coordinating, consolidating and ensuring the proper implementation of programme activities and operations. They will develop and coordinate project activities in collaboration with the project manager and local training staff. The Field Officer will provide general support and guidance and act as a point of reference during the planning of activities.
  • The Field Officer will ensure effective monitoring, evaluation and documentation of all activities and processes. He/she will analyse the data collected to inform changes in activities and ensure the success of the programme, including through continuous adjustments.
  • The Field Officer will maintain close contact with project partners.
  • The Field Officer will represent the project at the local level, participating in general meetings with local authorities and stakeholder meetings, as well as programme meetings in the nutrition sector, at the request of the project coordination team. The field manager may also manage visits by representatives of local authorities/other stakeholders, upon request.
  • The field manager will prepare periodic reports on activities and share them with the project manager, highlighting any issues encountered. They will also prepare other periodic reports for local authorities, when requested.

Technical leadership:

  • Sharing knowledge and expertise related to the nutrition sector
  • Supervising the training of operators
  • Supporting local counterparts and community stakeholders in defining training courses, capacity building and awareness campaigns on healthy eating practices.
  • Ensuring that nutrition activities are carried out in accordance with the logical framework and related indicators.
  • Responding to internal MLFM requests related to donor and local partner interests.

 

Requirements essential:

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in nutrition/agriculture, rural development, community development or other related fields.
  • Native English speaker
  • Leadership skills, conflict resolution skills, effective communication.
  • Proven experience in coordinating trainers and monitoring activities.
  • Good data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Experience in dealing with government/local authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Proven verbal and written communication, multitasking and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to work in stressful environments and under pressure.
  • Strong commitment to assigned tasks, sense of responsibility.
  • Computer skills in MS applications (Word, Excel, Internet, e-mail).
  • Motorcycle driving licence.

 

Duration: fixed term starting in March 2026 for 28 months , with a trial period of 3 months
